John F. Garland started his legal career in the highly touted and competitive Federal Public Defender's Office in Fresno, California. He was able to earn immediate experience trying cases and fighting for the rights of the accused in hearings and negotiations. He has since entered private practice as a criminal defense attorney. Other lawyers consistently refer cases to him because of their seriousness or complexity, he has handled numerous appeals, and he is active in local and state bar associations and community groups. He is extremely familiar with the personalities and procedures of the Federal Courts, in particular, the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of California, based in Fresno.
